While many of us socialize and celebrate holidays as the year draws to a close, we’re highlighting the social features you’ll find in SharePoint 2010. SharePoint’s social features bring the advantages of engaging with others in your field via online social tools to your business environment.

If your organization supports My Sites, you’re fortunate because it provides you with a home base for your collaboration activities. To start, it lets you present your colleagues with a personalized profile of who you are. Some people call this a personal brand. Once you’ve built a profile to introduce yourself, you can start creating a list of colleagues and a library of documents that you can share with them. You can even share ideas and stay up-to-date on colleague’s activities, all from your My Site.

Once you can access a My Site in your organization, you can follow these steps to start exploring your My Site (details may vary, depending on My Site is implemented in your organization):

  1. Open your My Site.
  2. Click the My Profile tab at the top of the page. If our organization has already supplied your picture and name, you should see a page similar to the first example at the bottom of this post. Otherwise, you can add your own picture by following the online instructions.
  3. Click the Edit button. You should see a page similar to the second example below.
